"The exhibited prints show the prowess of a printmaker in complete control of his technique. Water based relief printing is full of pitfalls but in Yu Chengyou's hands it looks effortless. His images are sublimely simple with a real understanding of texture, space and colour."... (review by James Hill)

Zhou Jirong Exhibition and Workshop, Cambridge

Exhibition: 10 October - 31 October 2009, 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday - Saturday
Workshop: Monday 12 - Tuesday 13 October 2009, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

St Barnabas Gallery is hosting an exhibition of new work by Zhou Jirong, 'City - the Waking of Insects', a set of screenprints exploring the look and culture of old Beijing. Entry is free and work is available for sale.

You are invited to the exhibition private view on Saturday 10 October at 7 p.m. at St. Barnabas Gallery.

In conjunction with the exhibition, we are going to run a two-day workshop on Water-based Reduction Screenprinting on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October, given by Zhou Jirong, Lecturer in Printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. The workshop will be held at St. Barnabas Press.

Reduction screenprinting is a technique similar to reduction woodcut, but applied to silkscreen. You only need one screen, directly working your image on the screen, printing from bright colours to dark, using up to 4-5 colours. This technique keeps registration mistakes to a minimum, allows you to work quickly, and means you don't waste any time in the dark room!

Mr. Zhou has been a lecturer in the Central Academy of Fine Art since 1988. His knowledge is boundless and will bring you a very fast, exciting and productive course.

Number of places on the workshop is limited to six people. If you would like to join the course, please contact us as soon as possible.

Price for the two days is £120, including all materials and tuition costs. A deposit of 50% is payable on booking your place.
